About Us

Maják exists to be a safe, family-friendly gathering place where you can meet others

Our Purpose

Maják is a Christian organization associated with the Wesleyan Church.  It is because of those Christian beliefs that we desire to create a safe, family-friendly gathering place where people can meet others and find community. We do this through our quality English classes, English camp, outdoor sports facilities, children’s playground, community partnerships and rental spaces.

Beyond allowing people to find community, we also value creating a safe place for those interested in spirituality. Through church services and small group settings, we offer a place to discuss the Bible, faith and the life of Jesus.

Community Partnerships

We have a strong value on creating community, and we want to work with others that value that as well. You can see below all of the organizations that use our building to create community.

Our Story

Maják was founded in 1997 by Americans, John and Shanda Croft in Brno, just after our 1st Majak English Camp. Then Majak moved in the year 2000 to the property at Dusíkova 5 as a welcoming place for learning, sports, community, and connection.  We celebrate more than 25 years in Brno-Lesná!
In the early 2000s, the building was renovated through the efforts of dedicated volunteers, faithful investors, and a local construction company. Their vision and hard work helped create the Maják you see today.
Since its beginning, Maják has offered high-quality English language programs and activities for people of all ages. Over the years, it has also sponsored sports teams and brought people together through shared experiences, cultural exchange, and common interests from around the world.
Maják has grown into a true community center where a wide variety of groups gather. Businesses, community organizations, youth groups, churches, sports teams, and many others regularly use the space to meet, learn, and build relationships.
Today, Maják continues to provide outstanding English learning opportunities led by teachers from North America. Beyond traditional language classes, we offer seminars, coaching, and practical opportunities for personal growth and life-skill development.
Each year, we host our annual Kids and Community Day in early June. We also welcome volunteers and teams from North America who partner with us through sports programs, camps, classes, and community activities that enrich our offerings and strengthen international connections.
If you would like to learn more about Maják, we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to contact any member of our staff with your questions.
