Do you know much about the American holiday of Thanksgiving?  We hope that this post will help you understand it a little more!  (It’s one of my favorites!)

Here’s a link to hear about the history of Thanksgiving! (Sorry, the subtitles are not quite right, though.)

For many Americans, Thanksgiving is about 3 things: Food, Family, and Football (American)

Maybe that sounds strange to you, but it’s true!  Thanksgiving is a time when families and friends gather together to have a big feast.  If we know someone who doesn’t have family to be with on Thanksgiving, we often invite them to join our celebration.  In the morning, children will gather in front of the TV to see the big Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City!  The parade always ends with Santa Claus on his sleigh – he welcomes in the Christmas season!  If you have 2 hours, click on the link and see the entire 2016 parade!

Before eating our big meal, each person will share something that he or she is thankful for, like God, family, good health, a job, and so on.

Then we eat!  There will usually be a big turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, cranberry sauce, corn, sweet potatoes (with marshmallows on top!), and lots of pies and dessert!

After the meal, it’s time for football – and families all across the USA will be watching football games all afternoon and evening!

Thanksgiving is such a beautiful holiday because it’s relaxing and joyful.  And it’s a great opportunity to think about what we are thankful for and what God has given us.

What are you thankful for today?  Tell someone about it today!
